Helene"Lena"Herman, 100, of Scottsbluff, died December 16, 2015 at Heritage Estates in Gering. A funeral service will be held December 21, at Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery near Scottsbluff. Lena was born June 25, 1915 in Cymric, Saskatchewan, to Frederick and Susana (Hilderman) Schmidt. She received her early education in Canada. Lena came to the United States in 1928 with her family and attended Scottsbluff High School. She and her parents moved to Goshen County, Wyoming in 1932. Lena married George Herman on June 3, 1934 at St. Paul’s Church in Mitchell. They farmed in Goshen County for several years before returning to Scotts Bluff County in 1953. Lena weighed trucks for Berggren Construction for several seasons and also worked in various cafes as a cashier. Her last place of employment was with the Aging Office of Western Nebraska where she worked as site manager for fifteen years. Preceding Lena in death were her parents; husband, George in 1995; two brothers and their spouses, Jacob(Linda)Schmidt and Frederick(Frieda) Schmidt; three sisters and their spouses, Elsie(Mike)Herman, Marie (Dave) Gorr, and Freida(Ed)Burkhart; grandson, Jeremy Herman; and daughter-in-law, Ilene Herman.
