Meinrad and Anastasia Dienst Muller and their family came to America from Baden, Germany in 1833. They landed in New York and went from there to Chillicothe, Ohio, then traveled to Baltimore where they lived for about a year, and finally settled in Strasburg, now Shrewsbury, York, Pennsylvania. The family had eleven children, 7 of which were born in Germany, 1 in Ohio and 3 in York County, Pennsylvania. His first wife Anastasia died in 1839 and she was buried on his property. The family was German Catholic, but there was no Catholic Churches in the area where they settled. When Redemptorists priest started traveling to the area from Baltimore in 1841, Meinrad donated 2 acres of his property for the construction of a Catholic Church and Cemetery. This was the start of St John the Baptists Roman Catholic church and cemetery. Meinrad's second marriage to Anna Elizabeth Lehrman, widow of Henry Stinefelt in 1841 was the first recorded marriage of St John the Baptist Church. With this marriage, there was one child born. Anne Elizabeth Muller died in 1845. Meinrad Muller had two more marriages with the last wife out living him. Meinrad carried the German birth name of Muller and his marriages recorded his last name as Muller. It was only in the early 1850's that his personal records started using both Muller and Miller. It is unclear whether his tombstone shows Muller or Miller, but I have listed the memorial as Miller, because the records of his children were using Miller.
