John Richard Steward, 84, of Lake Placid went to be with his Lord on Thursday evening June 11, 2015. He was at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Steward was born on July 20, 1930 in Shamokin, PA. He was the son of Maude (Straub) and Walter Monroe Steward. John served his country with honors in the US Army from September 1948 to September 1951. After being discharged from the Army with the rank of Corporal. John went to work for US Postal Service as a letter carries until his retirement in 1986. r. Steward moved to Lake Placid in 1986 from Plattsburgh, NY. He was a member of the Norristown, PA Elks Lodge 714. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 73 in Shamokin, PA for 63 years. John was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed target shooting and fly fishing. John was of the Christian faith and loved to be with his family and friends.

Mr. Steward is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Janice; his son, Timothy Richard Steward of Springfield, VT; his daughter, Mary S. Jacobs of Lake Placid, Fl; and grandson William Richard Lancto who he helped raise as a son. He is also survived by a sister, Janet Schlegel of Naples, FL and many nieces and nephews.

A private service for the family to celebrate John's life was held by the family.
