SIOUX CITY, IA | Gerald L. “Jerry” Mills, 72, of Sioux City, died Monday, Dec. 14, 2015 at his residence after a long illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jerry was born Aug. 16, 1943 in Little Rock, Ark. the son of Richard L. and Violet R. (Moore) Mills, Sr. He graduated from Central High School in 1961 and attended the University of Iowa. Jerry served with the 185th Air National Guard as an air technician from 1963 until 1969. He was activated in 1968 due to the Pueblo Crisis during the Vietnam Conflict.
On August 9, 1975 he married Linda York in Sioux City.
Jerry owned the Brass Rail Tavern and worked with his father’s Mills Music from 1971 to 1981. He worked for L&L Distributing from 1986 to 1996. He then worked for the Sioux City Community School District as a school bus driver. Jerry loved the kids and families. It was the best years of his life on route 10 and 11.
Jerry was an avid fan of NASCAR, the Packers and the Hawkeyes. He looked forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas family dinners. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; a daughter, Kim York and a grandson, Michael Hauschildt both of Sioux Falls, SD; 3 siblings, Richard (Carol) Mills, Jr. of Otho, IA, Dennis Mills of Sioux City and Sherry (Terry) Flynn of Urbandale, IA; several nieces and nephews; and his shih tzu dog, Lily.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
