Edwin Holt, 89, of Colona passed away Dec. 14, 2015, at his daughter’s home in Erie.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Schroder Mortuary, Colona, with visitation one hour prior to service time. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Melanoma Research.
Edwin was born May 15, 1926, in Mountain View, Ark., the son of William and Lena Jefferies Holt. He married Lena E. Baxter May 4, 1948, in Mountain View.
Edwin served as an Army corporal and gunner in the the European Theatre during World War II. He retired from Alcoa in 1988.
Edwin was a self-taught musician and could play anything with strings. He enjoyed woodworking and could build anything. He also made airplanes out of pop cans which are now all around the world.
Survivors include his wife, Lena, Colona; daughters, Debra (Kenny) Collis, Erie, and Pam Gooch, Colona; son-in-law, Melvin (Edel) Miller; grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy, Justin, Stacy, Shawna, Amber, Sarah and Rachel; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Jap Holt, Mountain View; and many nieces and nephews. Edwin was preceded in death by his daughter Sharon in 1986; brothers Jack, Jake, Jesse and JC; and sisters Isabelle and Flossie.
