Doritha Anima “Dolly” Shaw (b. 1802 in Ross, Butler, Ohio; d. March 27, 1834 in Ross, Butler, Ohio. Abraham Cornelius Westervelt and Doritha Anima “Dolly” Shaw were married on July 23, 1818 in Butler County, Ohio. This was her one and only marriage. They had seven children together. Her father was Knowles Shaw Sr. (1757-1831) and mother was Sophia Ogg (1768-1853). Her parents lived most of their lives in Hamilton and Butler Counties, Ohio. Sophia Ogg Shaw relocated to Rush and Tipton Counties, Indiana after Knowles’ death in 1831 and married John Kitley.

Knowles Shaw Sr. mentions both Abraham Westervelt and his daughter, Dolly Shaw Westervelt in his Last Will and Testament recorded in Butler County, Ohio.

Mother: Sophia Ogg Shaw Kitley (b. May 8, 1768 in Maryland; d. January 9, 1853 in Tipton County, Indiana). She is buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Husband: Abraham Cornelius Westervelt (116504255) (b. 16 December, 1795 in Saddle River, Bergen, New Jersey; d. February 12, 1875 in Harrison Township, Darke, Ohio). Inscription: 81 yrs, 1 mo, 25 days. It should read: 79 yrs, 1 mo, 25 days. Abraham Cornelius Westervelt’s parents were Cornelius Jurjaen Westervelt ( ) and Maria Roblin Westervelt (1761- ) and they resided in Saddle River, Bergen County, New Jersey. Abraham Cornelius Westervelt moved west from Saddle River, Bergen County, New Jersey in about 1816. He settled in Ross, Butler County, Ohio in 1817. Abraham Cornelius Westervelt and Doritha Anima “Dolly” Shaw were married on July 23, 1818 in Butler County, Ohio. The 1860 and 1870 Censuses show that he changed his name to Abraham Westerfield and was born in New York. He is buried at Friendship Cemetery in Hollansburg, Darke, Ohio.

Abraham Cornelius Westervelt, a widower with children, remarried to Mary Ann (Morris) Dennis Fuller (1809-1876) a widow with children on May 14, 1834 in Butler County, Ohio. March 22, 1812 in Ross/Richland, Butler, Ohio; d. March 9, 1884 in Milroy, Rush, Indiana). They moved to Milroy, Rush, Indiana about 1838. They had five known children: Abraham, Christian, John M. Sr., Francis M. and Benjamin Mason Alter.
David T. Alter, a widower with children, married a second time on February 2, 1854 in Rush County, Indiana to Catherine Purkhiser Boring (52937069) (b. December 22, 1776 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; d. August 20, 1886 in Decatur County, Indiana). She was a widow of Jacob Henry Boring (b. Baltimore, Maryland (Independent Cities); d. March 28, 1834 in Rush County, Indiana). They were married October, 1813 in Clermont, Ohio. David T. Alter is buried at McCarter Cemetery in Rush County, Indiana, along with his second wife, Catherine.

ii. Sophia Westervelt Saywood (b. 4 August 1822 in Ross, Butler, Ohio; d. unknown). Family history indicates that she was born at 8:00 in the evening. She married Richard W. Saywood on 23 September 1839 in Rush County, Indiana.

iii. Andrew Jackson “Jackson/Jack” Westerfield Sr. (FAG #140453088) (b. 6 November 1824 in Ross, Butler, Ohio; d. September 3, 1896 in Manilla, Rush, Indiana). Family history indicates that he was born at 4:00 in the evening. His death certificate is listed in Rush County, Indiana under "Jack Westerfield" as he frequently used the name Jackson Westerfield since childhood. He was born with the name of Andrew Jackson Westervelt but often went by Jackson Westervelt when living in Butler County, Ohio as a child. He changed his name as a young man in about 1838 (about the same time that he moved to Rush County, Indiana with his sister and brother ). As an adult, he commonly used the name of “Jackson/Jack Westerfield”. He moved to Manilla, Indiana (Rush County) in about 1838. He served in the Civil War for Shelby County, Indiana. During the Civil War he used his real name of Andrew Jackson Westerfield Sr. He had three wives in Rush County, Indiana (Mary Amy Crystal, Eleanor “Nellie” Edwards and Ann Frances Edwards). He used the name Jackson Westerfield in all three marriages. He also had five children between his second and third wife.

iv. John Westervelt (101245733) (b. February 2, 1827 in Ross, Butler, Ohio; d. December 29, 1894 in West Liberty, Howard, Indiana. Family history indicates that he was born at 8:00 in the morning. He moved to Milroy, Rush, Indiana with his older brother and sister in 1838. He was a Civil War Veteran. He married Mary Ann Johnson (101245747) on April 6, 1850 in Rush County, Indiana. Mary Ann Johnson (b. April 6, 1833 in Rush County, Indiana; d. October 20, 1912 in West Liberty, Howard, Indiana). They later relocated to West Liberty, Howard, Indiana. John Westervelt and Mary Ann Johnson had eight children together: Ren, Coon, Florida, Lot, Enis, Jasper, Franklin O. Sr. and Shale Haman Westervelt. They can all be found in the 1860 and 1870 Census for Howard County, Indiana. John Westervelt and Mary Ann Johnson Westervelt are both buried at New Hope Cemetery in Phlox, Howard, Indiana.

v. Martha Ann Westervelt (b. 1 April 1829 in Ross, Butler, Ohio; d. unknown). Family history indicates that she was born at 4:00 in the morning.

vii. Mima Westervelt Stewart (73894312) (b. 3 February 1834 in Ross, Butler, Ohio; d. September 9, 1904 in Richmond, Wayne, Indiana). Family history indicates that she was born on 3 February 1834 at 10:00 in the morning. She married Wellington Stewart (73894319) (b. 1823 in Pennsylvania; d. April 3, 1909 in Richmond, Wayne, Indiana). They were married in Butler County, Ohio. They had five children together. They are both buried at Earlham Cemetery in Richmond, Wayne, Indiana.
