Hazel Torneten Rose, 94, of Idaho Falls, passed away December 13, 2015, at Turtle & Crane Assisted Living Center.

Hazel was born February 17, 1921, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Henry Torneten and Anna Bronnenkant Torneten. She grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1938. After attending Colorado Women’s College in Denver for one year on a scholarship, she graduated from Iowa State University in 1942 with a Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics. She returned to Idaho Falls to help her father with a fox farm as help was not readily available during the war.

On February 6, 1943, she married Rogers K. "Rod" Rose in Panama City, Florida, where he was stationed in the U. S. Coast Guard. They lived in Florida and also in San Francisco, then returned to Idaho Falls after the war, where Rod went into Rogers Brothers Seed Company with his father.

During her life she was a board member of the Community Chest, board member of the American Red Cross, a longtime Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, and a member of that board; a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Sacred Heart Auxiliary, Rotary-Anns, and filled many offices in PTA groups. In 1962, she was chosen "Woman of the Year’ by the Jay-C-Ettes, who sponsored the event.

As a member of First Presbyterian Church, she was Sunday School Treasurer for many years, played the piano and taught Sunday School, was a Deaconess, and served both as president and secretary for the Presby-Anns, a women’s church circle. She and her husband were very active in supporting and helping build the Chapel in the Valley in Swan Valley.

Hazel always enjoyed all kinds of sports and activities – snowmobiling, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, hunting, golf, and bowling. Bridge was another favorite pastime. She was an excellent cook and also liked to sew and knit. About one third of her time was spent at the Rose cabin in Palisades, where they did most of their entertaining. A huge garden was also part of the place. She traveled extensively in the world and took many trips in the United States via trailer or motorhome.

Hazel is survived by three daughters, Linda (Del) Wilkins of Swan Valley, ID, Cynthia Law of Wapello, ID, and Barbara Taul of Idaho Falls, ID, three grandchildren, Corbit (Claudette) Wilkins, Cortney Taul, and Cristin Wilkins, and two great grandchildren, Cameron Wilkins and Cayson Wilkins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rod Rose, and a grandson, Darson Fleming.
