Stella Jonell (Gore) Lewis passed away at home with family on Sunday, November 29, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer.


Stella (Joni) was born on Sept. 16, 1950 in Lynwood, CA to Gurstel A. and Anita P. (Neighbours) Gore. Joni spent most of her life in Durham, CA and was an amazing and nurturing single mother to her son and daughter.


Joni retired from Chico State in the fall of 2005 to pursue her new passion; time with grandkids! She cherished them all so much. She also had a love for animals. She is survived by her son James Anderson of Reno; daughter Jennifer Scholzen of Evans, GA; five grandchildren: Caden, Jace, Alec, Boston and Sarah; brothers Harvey Gore of Chico; Nick Gore of Durham and sisters Lyn Tozier and Kim Kyes of Durham, as well as many more cherished relatives and friends.


A celebration of her life will be held in Durham in February. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Butte Humane Society, 2580 Fair Street, Chico, CA 95928, 530-343-7917 or http://buttehumane.org/. Published in Chico Enterprise-Record on Dec. 15, 2015
