He attended Niagara University and served in the United States Army. Dan was an inspiration and source of strength, love, and faith for all of his family.

He was predeceased in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Ann Riegel Shea, and is survived by his brother, James E. He was an integral member of Assumption Parish serving twice as President of the School Board, Vice President of the Parish Council, Respect Life Director, member of the Liturgy Committee, and served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist.

In the community, he was a Board Member of Duval County Right to Life, Emergency Pregnancy Services, and CUSA, an apostolate of individuals with chronic illnesses and disabilities which unites its members in the Cross of Christ so that they find God's will and purpose in their suffering. Up until recently, he was a regularly contributing writer to their website.
