Roland John Miller of Culbertson, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015, at the Nebraska Heart Hospital in Lincoln at 74 years old.

Roland was born on August 10, 1941, in Culbertson to parents, John W. and Martha (Wagner) Miller. He graduated from Culbertson High School in 1959.

On June 17, 1962, he was united in marriage to Jeannette Elizabeth Gohl at St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson, upon which they settled on a farm north of Culbertson to start their family.

Roland was a 60-year member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson, where he served in many capacities. He was a Freemason, a member of the Eureka Chapter of Eastern Star No. 86, was active within the Nebraska Cattlemen's Association, and received the 2007 McCook Chamber of Commerce Ag Builders Award for his contributions to the community. He also served on the Hitchcock County Fair Board, Production Credit Board and First National Bank Board.

Roland thoroughly enjoyed spending time with and teaching youth, volunteering countless hours as the leader of the Westerneers 4-H Horse Club. He appreciated all kinds of sports, especially enjoying those in which his grandchildren participated. He liked driving his classic car around the countryside and spending time in nature, whether it be bird watching or being down by the river with his grandchildren. His passion was spending time with his cattle and horses, but above all, his family.

Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Martha Miller; brother, Donald Miller; sister, Eileen Randel; and brothers-in-law, Bob Hesterwerth and Ray Bartusiak.

Family was Roland's pride and joy and he is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jeannette Miller of Culbertson; daughter, Kim and her husband, Jay Schilling of McCook; son, John and his wife, Karen Miller of Culbertson; and his grandchildren, Nic and wife, Sarah Schilling, Jake Miller, Ben Schilling, Will Miller and Morgan Schilling; and great-children, Reagan and Anson Schilling. He is further survived by sisters, Joan Hesterwerth of McCook and Lois Bartusiak of Littleton, Colorado; sister-in-law, Gwen Miller of Culbertson; and brother-in-law, Cliff Randel and wife, Diane of Indianola.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name.
