Genevieve Teresa (Samz) Jensen, age 91, of Tomah, Wisconsin, passed away December 14, 2015, at the Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta, WI. She was born March 6, 1924, at her rural home to Richard and Teresa (Fitzpatrick) Samz at Argonne, WI. She graduated from Argonne High School in 1942 and joined the Cadet Nursing Corp in February of 1944. Gen entered Nurse’s Training at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, WI. After attaining her RN degree she worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander and later for a short time at the Tomah VA Medical Center. Genevieve was united in marriage to Gerald Jensen on June 10, 1950 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church by Rev. Father Brudermann. When Tomah Memorial Hospital opened in 1952 she started working there until June of 1963. She held various other positions including school nurse and was the City Health Officer for 30 plus years retiring at the age of 80. Gen was very proud of her Irish heritage. She is survived by her children, Richard (Linda) Jensen of Clarksville, MD, Eric (Candace) Jensen of Tomah, WI and, Connie (Jim) Summerfield of Wilton, WI; two grandchildren, Megan (John Dingman) Jensen and their daughter, Madelyn of Tomah, WI and Clint Jensen of Milwaukee, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Teresa, her husband, Gerald, three brothers and a sister, three half-sisters and two half-brothers. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 9, 2016, 10:30 a.m. at the Queen of the Apostles Parish at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tomah. Father Clayton Elmhorst will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends are invited for visitation Saturday, January 9, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Torkelson Funeral Home of Tomah is assisting the family with arrangements. The family would like to thank Touch of Home in Tomah, the Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta and Gundersen Lutheran Hospice Care for the wonderful care given to Genevieve.
