Mr. Morris Lynn Bowman of the Remmel Community, Newport departed this life on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at the age of 95. Mr. Bowman was born April 4, 1920, in Newport the youngest of eight children born to William Andrew Bowman and Effie Jane Reagan Bowman.

Mr. Bowman was a member of the Newport High School Class of 1938. He married his high school sweetheart and classmate since 2nd grade, Miss Violet Rushing, on October 22, 1939. Together they made their home in Remmel and enjoyed seventy-six years of marriage, raised three sons, enjoyed seven grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Bowman lived a life centered on a deep love and devotion to family, Jesus Christ and His church.

Mr. Bowman was a self employed farmer and businessman. Throughout his adult life, he was an active rice, soybean, and cattle farmer. In 1973, Mr. Bowman founded Bowman Manufacturing Company, a manufacturing enterprise that fabricates specialized farm equipment. He worked side by side with his three sons and as the years have passed, another generation has joined the family business. Mr. Bowman was a leader in the farming community at county, state, and national levels. He was a member and past president of Arkansas Farm Bureau Federation, served on the board of directors of American Farm Bureau, Farmers Oil, Chairman of the American Soybean Producers, and Riceland Foods.

Mr. Bowman was honored for his excellence in agriculture several times, including being selected as “Man of the Year in Service to Arkansas Agriculture” in 1972 by the Progressive Farmer magazine, his induction in to the Arkansas Agriculture Hall of Fame, and his honorary membership of the University of Arkansas Chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta agriculture society.

Mr. Bowman gave back to his community by serving on the Board of Directors of Merchants and Planters Bank for 35 years, the Newport Special School District School Board, and as a director of the Newport Area Chamber of Commerce. His service on the State and National levels includes his position as commissioner of the Arkansas Water Conservation Commission and his appointment by Governor Dale Bumpers to the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board, serving as it’s first chairman.

Of all the honors, positions, and service Mr. Bowman has given throughout his 95 years, none was more important to him than the commitment he made, as a child,
to be a Christian. Mr. Bowman was a beloved and devoted member of the Remmel Church of Christ. His service to the church includes the many years he spent as a Bible teacher, Christian mentor, and his service as an elder for 52 years. The last line of Mr. Bowman’s written instruction simply states, “Hope to see you in Heaven because of Him.”

A life well lived is to be remembered, a life faithfully lived is to be celebrated, and a life filled with dignity, kindness, gentleness, and genuine humility is to be imitated. The life of Mr. Morris Lynn Bowman will be remembered, celebrated, and imitated by those who were privileged to know him as family and by those who were honored to know him as a friend. The wise and kind words that came from the genuine smile that crossed his face are treasured memories of all who knew him.
The effect his life has had on eternity is immeasurable.
