Alonzo J. Phillips was born in Farmington, Pa., Aug. 28, 1833, and died at his home in Princeton, Ill., Oct. 10, 1897. He came to Bureau County in 1857 and two years later was married to Alzina Stiles who survives. They began farming near Walnut where they lived until the last years, which were spent at his residence, in Princeton.
There were born to them seven children, five sons and two daughters, all of whom survive him, except one daughter, Etta, who died at the age of twelve. The three oldest sons and the surviving daughter are married and reside on farms in this vicinity, the two younger sons being at home.
The deceased also leaves two sisters and five brothers, all of whom reside in Pennsylvania except one, a younger brother, who resides in Iowa.

Note: The obituary states the interment was in the North Prairie Baptist cemetery. Unknown if the headstone in Oakland Cemetery is a cenotaph or if he was reinterred in Oakland.
