Russell Hunter, 92 of Bloomington went home to be with the Lord
Sunday, December 13, 2015. He was born to Harve Hunter and Bertha
E. (Robertson) on May 2, 1923. Russell is survived by three
children Gene Hunter (Patty) of Columbus, Jeanette Payne (Gary) of
Bloomington, and Herbert Hall of Franklin. He is also survived by 5
grandchildren Todd Payne (Lesle), Sheri White-Morley (Daniel),
Ellie Harvey (Brian), Robin Hall and Karen Olson; 8
great-grandchildren Bryce Hawkins, Whitney Payne, Aaron White
(Autumn), Danielle White, Nathan Harvey, Brandon Harvey, Megan
Olson and Madison Olson; as well as several nieces and nephews.


Russell was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Bertha Mae
Hunter on October 28, 2015, a son Danny Hunter, his parents and six
siblings Wilber Hunter, Glodene Gilliland, Jeanette Hanson,
Margaret Ormand and two infant brothers.


Russell served in the U.S. Marine Corp from February 1943 to
December 1945 on Peliliu Island, South Pacific. He was a heavy
equipment operator and mechanic working for Rogers Group and Sid
Cowden Construction. After retirement he continued working I his
garage for neighbors or friends that needed a garden plowed a field
bush-hogged, a vehicle repaired or any other miscellaneous job. If
the garage door was open, he was available for business or a visit
on the bench just inside the door while he sipped a cup of
coffee.


Russell was a member of the Zion's Hill Baptist Church of
Martinsville, Monroe Masonic Lodge #22, Operator Engineer Union 841
of Terra Haute, Marine Corp League #89 HBM Indianapolis Unit, and
the Peliliu Survivors Marine Corp Reunion Group.


Funeral services will be held 11am Thursday, December 17, 2015
at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory; 4155 S. Old State Road 37,
with Pastor Robert Yount officiating. Burial will take place in
Valhalla Memory Gardens with Military Rites. The family will
receive friends from 4-8pm Wednesday at Allen Funeral Home with a
Masonic Service at 7pm.


Memorial contributions may be made to Zion's Hill Building Fund
or Gideon International.
