Herman Bane Maddox, 89, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, AR December 8, 2015. Mr. Maddox, known as H.B. to family and friends, was born on March 11, 1926 at Houston, Arkansas in Perry County. He was brother to Sherman, Nellie, and Opie, born to his parents, G.H. and Ada Maddox. In addition to his parents, all of his siblings preceded him in death. He graduated from Campbell High School in 1944 and served in WW 2 as a B-17 ball turrent gunner. On January 13, 1947, he married the former Bethyl Kilness of Meade County, South Dakota. H.B. and Bethyl became the parents of three children, George, Ellen, and Dale. Alongside Bethyl, he was a builder of his own American dream with a career of farming in the Campbell area of Dunklin County, Missouri. H.B's life was an example of consistency, as a family man and in the relationships with the community he was part of. As a Christian, his faith was founded on the gospel as stated in John 14:6. After retiring, H.B. and Bethyl spent much time as part of a Missouri Airstream Club, traveling to unique locations, even as far as Alaska. In the winter months, they spent many years in Okeechobee, FL., making friends from several states and fishing as often as weather allowed. In 2008 Bethyl passed away in a tragic accident leaving H.B. behind. In Jan 2010 H.B. married Sally Ward of Heber Springs. Sally and H.B. enjoyed these recent years wintering in Florida and spending the remaining months at their home in Heber Springs. They shared many things in common, enjoying grandchildren, fishing, and Cardinal baseball. He leaves his devoted companion and wife, Sally; son George Maddox and wife, Liz of Chicago, IL; daughter Ellen Hardin and husband, Ron of Little Rock, AR; and son Dale Maddox and wife, Liane of Hardy, AR. He also leaves twelve grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 at Landess Funeral Home, 1213 Allen Rd, in Campbell, Mo. Friday, December 11th, with a memorial service to follow. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
