Charles B. Keyes, 86, of 50 Howard St., Fredonia, formerly of Lakewood, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, in Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk.
He was born March 25, 1929, in Jamestown, the son of the late Harriet Green and Sherman S. Green Keyes. Following his graduation from Jamestown High School in 1947, he served in the U.S. Air Force. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Marlin Rockwell Corporation in the electrical maintenance department and earlier had worked for the U.S. Postal Service.
He was a past member of Mt. Moriah Lodge F&AM, Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion, Lakewood United Methodist Church and the former Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Chuck enjoyed the outdoors and sharing it with his kids and grandkids. Whether through boating, fishing, tubing or water skiing on Chautauqua Lake (a lake he loved) or hiking, camping or tying flies. He enjoyed life with a smile on his face, he was quick with a joke or a kind word. He had a great perspective on life and will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather.
Surviving are his wife, the former Lois Roth, whom he married June 17, 1951; four children: Stephen Keyes of Mayville, Karen Zobel of Fredonia, Linda Boney of Wilmington, N.C., and Cindy (Mark) LeBaron of Jamestown; eight grandchildren: Kristy (Scott) Rowley of Indiana, Pa., Kali Keyes of Uppsala, Sweden, Stephanie (David) Stevens of Fredonia, Sarah (Rick) Kirchenwitz of Fredonia, Jessi Boney of New Orleans, La., John Boney of New York City, Scott (Rachel) LeBaron of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Katy (Cory) Whitmore of Jamestown; seven great-grandchildren Aiden Rowley, Sophie and Carter Stevens, Connor and Natalie LeBaron and Lauren and Carson Whitmore; a brother, Richard Keyes of West Ellicott; and a sister, Ann Olson of St. Michaels, Md.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Keyes; two sons-in-law: Larry Zobel and Dennis Boney; along with a brother, William Keyes.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Spell will officiate. Inturnment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service Monday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Chautauqua Lake Association, 429 E. Terrace Ave., Lakewood, NY, 14750-1538.
