Jaques/James was the eldest son of Francois Monty (1736-1809).
He enlisted in the Army in Albany in 1776. Served with his father with Livingston's First Canadian Regiment. Later served with Moses Hazen's 2nd Canadian Regiment. He was discharged in 1783 after 7 years of service. His brother's; Francois Jr., Joseph, Amable, and Placide, and John also served.

His father served as a Lieutenant in Livingston's Regt. in Captain Allen Company during the American Revolution. Francois joined the American Army in 1775 in Canada. Francois was the was a signatory to the Society of Cincinnati. Several of his brothers also served in the army during the Revolution.
After the war, several Monty's were granted tracts of land, in the town of Chazy, in Clinton County, New York.


James Monty died in the town of Peru, Clinton County, New York. He married Anne Taylor from Peekskill, New York, she pre-deceased her husband. Her burial spot is unknown.

James and Anne Taylor had three sons.
Christoper, James, and Matthew.
