His father served as a Lieutenant in Livingston's Regt. in Captain Allen Company during the American Revolution. Francois joined the American Army in 1775 in Canada. Francois was the was a signatory to the Society of Cincinnati. Several of his brothers also served in the army during the Revolution.
After the war, several Monty's were granted tracts of land, in the town of Chazy, in Clinton County, New York.
James Monty died in the town of Peru, Clinton County, New York. He married Anne Taylor from Peekskill, New York, she pre-deceased her husband. Her burial spot is unknown.
