2007 obituary. PORTLAND -- Madeline Hope Cox, 83, of Portland died suddenly Dec. 6, 2007. She was born Dec. 3, 1924, in Calais, the daughter of Arthur Frederick and Helena (Hatch) Allen. She attended local schools and graduated from Calais High School. She married Francis James Cox in Lubec, in 1945. She was a homemaker and had worked in the sardine factory and the blueberry processing plant in Lubec. Madeline attended services at the First Assembly of God Church. She attended the Eagles Club with her daughter. She was predeceased by her husband, July 10, 1980; a daughter, Patricia Ann Cox in 2001; two sisters, Virginia Merritt in 2005, Janice Peaco in 2004, and a brother Frederick Allen in 1977. Visiting hours will be 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service at the home. Burial will be at Forest City Cemetery in South Portland.
