TWO HIGHLAND LADIES GRADUATE FROM UNIVERSITY TRAINING SCHOOL
Miss Elsie Jean Stephenson, of Monterey, was one of a class of forty-three graduating from the University of Virginia hospital school of nursing at Charlottesville on Thursday, May 8. Dr. W. A. Kepner, professor of Biology at the University of Virginia, made the commencement address in Cabell Hall.
During th exercises the Nurses' Glee club, composed of all classes in the school, presented two numbers. Tea was served from five to six o'clock at McKim hall, home of the nurses. Miss Stephenson is a graduate of the Monterey high school and during her school days here took an active interest in various activities of the school, as well as being interested in church and social affairs of the community. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. Homer Stephenson and her aunts, Mrs. J. W. Boyer and Mrs. C. S. Roller, Jr. attended the graduating exercises. Another member of the class from this county was Miss Virginia Burns, a very attractive young lady of the Bolar community.

ELSIE J. STEPHENSON TO MARRY AT WEST POINT
Mr. and Mrs. L. Homer Stephenson of Monterey announce the engagement of their daughter, Elsie Jean, to Lieutenant Harold H. Gist, son of Dr. and Mrs. H. H. Gist, formerly of Ohio, now residing in Petersburg. Miss Stephenson is a graduate of Monterey High School, attended Brenau College, Gainsville, Ga., and was graduated in the class of 1941 from the University of Virginia Hospital. At present she is a volunteer nurse as lieutenant in the Army Nursing Corps at Fort Eustis. Dr. Gist was graduated in the class of 1941 from the University of Virginia, and was inducted in the United States Army Medical Corps at West Point, N. Y. The wedding will be solemnized June 9 at West Point Chapel.

Dr. and Mrs. H. H. Gist, who have been located at Charlottesville since Dr. Gist's separation from the army, have left for their new home at Canton, Ohio. Dr. Gist will be affiliated with Aultman Hospital in that city.
