Charles Monroe was son of George Washington Niel (Neal) 1850/51-1933 and Melisa Elizabeth Hopper 1840-1916.

He married Ruby B. Leatherbury on September 22, 1912 in Joplin, Jasper, Missouri. They had 5 children:

one child stillborn in 1915
Paul William 1916-1970 m. Claretta Marie Kuder
Henry Spencer 1919-1978 m. Anna Bernadine Wells
Deola Marie 1920-1948 m. James Edward Robbins and 2nd married Carl Phillips
Bonnie Jean 1924-1990 m. Leyland R. Allen.

Charles was bitten by a rabid dog, he recovered physically from the bite but mentally he was never the same and was at the Almshouse when he died. We have been unable to find a death certificate but according to the obituary he was buried in Forest Park Cemetery.

After further searching in the funeral home book by his grandson, Dick Niel, it was found that he was buried in Fairview Cemetery but it is an unmarked grave.
