Karen Elise Hines was born on July 18, 1962 in Buffalo, NY to Ethel M. Hines and Rudolph V. Hines.  After 51 years of being a loving mother, grandmother and caring friend to many, she departed this earth on June 18, 2014.
As a young girl, Karen was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church in Buffalo, NY.  She later attended services at Kingdom Dimesion Ministries, under the leadership of Bishop James Foyer Jr. and Pastor Phyllis Foyer.
Karen graduated from Hutchinson Central Technical High School on June 22, 1980.  She continued her education at Daemen College.  Karen successfully earned her Associate's of Arts Degree through the University of Phoenix.  Karen's ultimate goal in life was to become a counselor so that she could help fellow cancer patients.  Karen worked many years at Manufacturers and Trader's (M&T) Bank.  She ended her career at Key Bank.
Karen was a huge supporter of President Barack Obama.  Karen enjoyed reading, listening to music, online shopping and watching movies with her grandson.  Karen was a true and faithful friend and family member.  She was loved by many.  She truly loved her dog, Smokey, who was a comfort and protective companion.
She leaves to cherish precious memories, one daughter, Adrianna Thomas (Sarah D'Arcy); one son, Duane LaValley; one grandchild, Mekai Glascoe-Thomas; parents, Ethel Hines and Rudolph Hines; two sisters, Darlene Hines-Williams and Kimberly Hines; four nieces, Nailah Jefferson, Khadijah Jefferson, Nicole Williams and Ashley Dunbar; four great-nephews, Demire Knightner, Darion Knightner, Anthony Dunbar and Damien Johnson, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Family will receive friends Thursday, June 26, 2014, 11am at Antioch Baptist Church, 1327 Fillmore Ave.  Funeral to follow at 12 noon. Interment will be held at Ridgelawn Cemetery-Cheektowaga.
