On December 6th, at age 87, Inez Fredrickson died of natural causes.

She was the mother of six, grandmother of 23 and great grandmother of 26 + 2 on the way.

Born to the parents of Evan and Estella Theobald in Hinckley, Utah in 1928, Inez was the fourth of five children. She grew up during the Great Depression. At the age five, she contracted Polio leaving her with a shorter right leg with diminished muscles. In 1942 her family moved to Provo, Utah. She attended Lincoln High, Orem, Utah and Provo High. Inez was always determined to overcome the difficulties of her disabilities. Much to her mother’s surprise she learned to drive a car, getting her driver’s license at age 18.

Inez went on to Brigham Young University, graduating with a Bachelors of Accounting in 1950 as the only woman in her discipline. To start her career she landed a job in Salt Lake City as a bookkeeper for Lennox Furnace Company. After five years of working and driving a used green Plymouth she had bought on credit, she was ready for a change. She moved to Washington D.C. with some workmates. While there she met her future husband, Vern, who was serving in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Inez and Vern were married for all time and eternity at the Salt Lake Temple on September 9, 1955.

Inez and Vern lived in Provo and Midvale where they welcomed their first five children. The family then moved to Rockford, IL where a sixth child was born. After Rockford, the family moved to Seattle. After five years of living in and finishing a new home, her husband was laid off. Inez worked for a curtain fabricator until the family moved to Chico, CA in pursuit of work for her husband. She started working part-time when her youngest child began kindergarten. She had made it a priority to be at home when the young kids were not in school. While in Chico she worked as a bookkeeper at Merle Webb Homes, Chico Travel Service, Jet Age Travel, Carlson Travel and Kangaroo Courts. Inez enjoyed crocheting, quilting and needlepoint. She was prolific in hand crafts making many pieces for children and grandchildren.

Her husband was diagnosed with cancer and in 1975 died. Left with six kids ranging in ages from 9 to 18, Inez used her strength of determination to provide a stable and loving environment. During this time she battled cancer and various ailments. As a stoic, quiet and determined individual Inez always “put her shoulder to the wheel” and trudged forward to make things and life happen.

As her children grew up, married, dispersed and had children of their own, Inez organized camping reunions to bring the family together to reconnect.
