Carl Eugene “Geno” Ramsey, 88, of Pittsburg, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 5:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at his daughter’s residence in West Frankfort. Gene was born September 7, 1927 in Marion to Lee and Lizzie (Graul) Ramsey. He married Patricia Ann Lee on January 10, 1948 in Corinth. Together they shared over 58 years of marriage before Patricia preceded him in death on November 23, 2006. Gene was a retired coal miner, having been employed by Freeman Coal Company working at #3, #4 and #5 coal mines. He also worked for Peabody Coal Mine #43. Gene also was a carpenter and had also worked road construction. He was a member of Jesus Only Church in Herrin. He was also a member of the UMWA. Gene enjoyed going fishing and looked forward to putting out a garden every year. His roses were his pride and joy. Gene was beloved by his family and they will miss him very dearly. Survivors include his four children, Darlene (Jim) Hancock of Carbondale, Sherri L. (Rick) Thompson of West Frankfort, Kevin (Sherry) Ramsey of Marion and Greg Ramsey of Marion; eight grandchildren, Misty (Tom) Whittington of Carbondale, Brandi (Patrick Pohl) Stewart of West Frankfort, Benji (Beth) Ramsey of Indianapolis, Crystal (Lenny) Clark of Pittsburg, Jennifer (Nathan) White of Marion, Mikkie Ramsey of Marion, Christopher (Lexie) Ramsey of Marion, Jason Hancock of Alexandria, LA,Heather McGill of Morganfield, KY; nine great-grandchildren, Carrie White, Kailyn Stewart, Trevor Whittington, Anna and Ty Clark, Fiona Botsford, Lucas Pohl, Rylee and Gage McGill; brother, Don (Dorothy) Ramsey of Johnston City and Charles (Venida) Ramsey of Johnston City; brother-in-law, Charles Schroeder of Marion. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Leon and Cecil Ramsey; three sisters, Laverne Edwards, Louise Harris and Ruth Litton; two sisters-in-law, Sue Schroeder and Cleo Midget. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 12, 2015 in Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City with Rev. Donnie Colson officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., Saturday at the Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
