Kelly L. Mitchell, 65, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
He was born in Altoona, Iowa on September 22, 1950, and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a resident of the Des Moines area for most of his life.
Kelly loved and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, feeding the squirrels, enjoying a hearty laugh, and playing cards. He was a generous man always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends and fellow veterans down on their luck. He also brightened the lives of many children on multiple occasions by playing Santa Claus.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nora J. Mitchell and his beloved sister, Patricia Duncan.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, December 14th at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Memorial service will begin at 11:00 am Tuesday, December 15th, also at Hamilton’s. Burial of cremated remains will take place at 12:30 pm Tuesday at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
