MARIA JESUS (SUZIE) CLARK Maria Jesus (Suzie) Clark, 79, a 44-year resident of Butte County, died November 22 at University of California Davis Medical Center, in Sacramento, after several years of illness. She was born in La Rioja, Spain, at the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, where her father, a soldier (later officer) was posted. Following the war the family moved to Madrid, where she lived until 1962. In Madrid she completed her "bachillerato" at Colegio Froebel, Madrid, and later was employed at Laboratorio EFEIN as a distribution coordinator. In 1962 she married Richard Clark, who later taught Spanish and journalism for 24 years at Butte College. The ceremony was performed at her parish church, Madrid. From there the couple began their lives in El Paso, Texas. Her husband's later teaching assignments took them to Salinas (where she taught Spanish for a year at Notre Dame High School) Windsor, Chico, and Paradise, California, where Suzie realized her dream of a Spanish-style home with enclosed courtyard. Her artistic talent was evident in all that she undertookceramics, sewing, gardening, landscaping, and even in the preparation of Spain's national dish, paella.
