Arthur Tonna, Sr., 84, of Holden passed away on Monday, June 23, 2014 in UMASS Memorial Campus surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Worcester, a son of the late Theodore and Veronica (Dima) Tonna and lived in Holden for more than 45 years.

Arthur leaves his wife of 60 years, Mary (Bosnakis) Tonna; 2 sons, Arthur Tonna, Jr. of Worcester and Andrew Tonna and his wife, Anna of West Brookfield; a daughter, Elizabeth (Tonna) Sarantos and her husband, Constantine of Andover; 5 grandchildren, Andrew J. Tonna of East Brookfield, Alexandria J. Beane and her husband, Leonard of West Brookfield, Daniel E. Tonna of Rocky Hill, CT, Alyssa M. Sarantos and Christopher D. Sarantos, both of Andover, and one great-grandchild, Mason A. Beane of West Brookfield; 2 brothers, Theodore Tonna, Jr. and his wife, Betty of Webster and George Tonna and his wife, Lynne of Worcester; 4 sisters, Mary Cocaine and her husband, Christo of Worcester, Joan Christo and her husband, James of Holden, Jean Welch of Sturbridge and Diane Tonna of Worcester; his step-mother, Florica Tonna of Worcester; a daughter-in-law, Trish Martin of Rocky Hill, CT; a brother-in law, Paul Bregou of Liverpool, NY; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Elliot Tonna who died in 2001; and his sisters, Loretta Bregou of Liverpool, NY and Vicki Pastorelle of Mystic, CT.

Arthur graduated from Proctor Academy in Andover, NH and Worcester Junior College in Worcester. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was active in numerous Air Rescue Missions on Choto Island. He was an executive at Table Talk Pies in Worcester for many years. He was a life-long member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Worcester, the Worcester Tennis Club, and the Greendale YMCA. Arthur was an outstanding athlete who loved tennis, golf, skiing, ski jumping, football and especially wakeboarding, in which he was a celebrated performer. Arthur loved his family and will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for an hour of visitation on Thursday, June 26, from 9 - 10:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery in Worcester. The family requests flowers be omitted and contributions be made in Arthur’s memory to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral Endowment Fund, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
