Cecelia Elizabeth Grady Dailey, 74, of 1121 SW 98 th Street, (formerly of Faison, NC) passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at North Florida Regional Medical Center. A funeral will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home with the Reverend Marguerite Sirrine officiating. Interment will follow in the Faison City Cemetery. Cecelia was born at home in Warsaw, Duplin County, NC on September 20, 1941. She grew up in Faison, NC at graduated from North Duplin High School in 1959. She was the daughter of the late Lionel Orion Grady and Bessie Lee Hobbs (Grady) Gregory. Cecelia was the twin sister of Amelia Calvin Grady Godwin of Benson, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents and her step-father, John Earl Gregory, Jr. She was known to her many friends as “Ceil”. Ceil was a Registered Nurse, graduating from the James Walker Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Wilmington, NC in 1962. She worked all of her life, up to her death. For 27 years she was an RN with the Veterans Administration at their Bay Pines Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL; Hunter McGuire Hospital in Richmond, VA; VA Hospital in Gainesville, FL; and, the VA Medical Center in Washington, DC. At the VA in DC, she was the Head Nurse of the SICU. As an ICU Nurse, she was a founding member of the Critical Care Nursing Association – Greater Washington Area Chapter (CCNA-GWAC). She was the 3 rd President of CCNA-GWAC. After retiring from the VA she worked in Home Health at the Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA; Shands Home Health (at the University of Florida in Gainesville); and finally, for Senior Home Care (now, Kindred) and Family Life Care, both in Gainesville. Her greatest joy (other than her family & her nursing career) was her membership in the Gainesville Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Her Patriot Ancestor was Captain James Outlaw and Pvt. Frederick Grady (both of Duplin County, NC) who fought at the Battle of Moore’s Creek Bridge near Wilmington. She served in many officer positions in the Gainesville chapter including Chapter Chaplain. She also attended DAR chapter meetings in the Dunn Chapter (in NC), of which her twin sister was Regent. The DAR brought many close friends into her life. She was a member of the Grady-Outlaw Family Association of Duplin County in Albertson, NC. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ronald Berry “Ron” Dailey; sons, Michael Berry Dailey, Patrick Orion Dailey, and Sean Thomas Dailey; daughter-in-law, Marian Marie Romano Dailey – wife of Patrick; grandchildren Jordan Marie Dailey, Tristin Orion Dailey, and Connor Devlin Dailey; siblings, Annelle Grady Viar, Amelia Calvin Grady Godwin (twin), and half-sister, Mary Ruth Gregory Stroupe. The family will receive friends at 2 PM, Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home prior to the funeral service (at 3 PM). The burial will be at 4 PM in her family plot in the Faison Cemetery, Faison, NC. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
