Marjorie Martinsen, 94, Kenmare, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Kenmare Community Hospital.

Marjorie Evelyn Hansen was born July 17, 1921, the daughter of Hans and Christine (Paulson) Hansen, in Kenmare, ND. She was raised and educated in the Kenmare area, graduating from Kenmare High School in 1939. She then attended a nursing school in Racine, Wisconsin. She taught at a country school in Norma, ND, for a short time.

Marjorie married Magnus E. Martinsen June 1, 1947, in at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Kenmare. They made their home on a farm northeast of Kenmare from 1950 until retiring in 1982. Upon retirement they purchased their home in Kenmare. During this time, she worked at the Kenmare Hospital in housekeeping. Magnus passed away March 15, 1990.

Following her husband’s death, she continued to reside in Kenmare.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Kenmare. She was very active with her church, whether it was playing the organ and piano for church services, teaching Sunday school or its ladies aid group. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a local Monday morning Bible study group.

She enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, playing piano and organ, knitting and crocheting. She was famous for her Kringle Cookies. She was also known as “Auntie M” on her emails.

Her loving family includes: son, Ron Martinsen, Kenmare; sister-in-law, Pearl Nelson, Kenmare, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Magnus; daughter, Kay Martinsen; brother Lester and his wife Doris Hansen; brother-in-law LeRoy Nelson; nephews, Dennis Nelson and Gary Hansen.
