AGE: 91 RAHWAY
Herman C. Abrams, 91, of Rahway, died on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, at home.
Born in Rahway, Mr. Abrams was a lifelong resident.
For 40 years, he was employed by Merck and Company of Rahway as a chemical operator, retiring in 1981. He was a longtime congregant of First Presbyterian Church of Rahway and a member of the Rahway Men's Club. He was an avid bottle collector who displayed more than 2,000 unique bottles, and who was spotlighted on an episode of Comedy Central for his collection. His collection was also documented in editions of America's Small Museums.
Predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Abrams, and his sons, Richard and Robert Abrams.
He is survived by a daughter, Judy Hockenjos and her husband, Gary, of Newton; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as "Grandpa Duke," and a daughter-in-law, Maureen Abrams of Brick.
Funeral services will be held at noon Monday from Corey-Ragan Funeral Home, 259 Elm Ave., Rahway, with interment to follow at Rahway Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
