HAMPTONVILLE - Mr. William "Clay" Macy, 89, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at the Yadkin Nursing Center.

Mr. Macy was born Sept. 29, 1912, in Yadkin County to William Edmond and Cornelia Phelps Macy.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Mr. Macy was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Swaim Macy; and a granddaughter, Andrea Macy Hawkins.

Surviving are two sons and two daughters, Ann (Conard) Woodle of Hamptonville, Gray (Mary) Macy of Greer, S.C., and Betty M. Vanhoy and Ronnie (Wendy) Macy, all of Hamptonville; five grandchildren, Ryan Macy of Hamptonville, Josh Macy of Raleigh, Shane Vanhoy of Hamptonville, Lori M. Burns of Campobello, S.C., and Christy M. Funderburk of Yadkinville; a stepgrandchild, Jessica Short; and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral service for Mr. Macy will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 26, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Alvin Jones and the Rev. Jesse Clubb. Mr. Macy will lie in state from 2 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service.

Burial will follow the service at the church cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at Gentry Family Funeral Service, 4517 Little Mountain Road, Jonesville.
