Barclay Jack Standing passed away peacefully on December 6, 2015, surrounded by his family.

He was born February 5, 1923 in Brigham City, Utah to Barclay Jarvis and Ada Mifflin Standing.

Jack grew up in northern Utah with his 5 brothers and sisters. Jack excelled in school and loved math and engineering. He went to Weber State College majoring in Art.

It was here that he met the love of his life, Marie Hoggan Standing. They were married November 5, 1942 in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.

Jack was drafted less than a month after their wedding and he served honorably in WWII in the combat engineers division.

After returning from the war, Jack became a teacher because his mother said it would be a job where he would always have security. Jack wasn’t meant to be a teacher. He was a man of many trades and kept looking until he found his niche. Jack was trained as an Engineer during WWII which gave him the skills and education to pass the government exam to become an engineer for the Bureau of Land Reclamation. He started working as a computer programmer in the 1960's. He excelled at this job and was loved by all he worked with. Although he loved his job at the Bureau and worked there for nearly 20 years, he retired the very minute he possibly could. He had a lengthy retirement full of painting, carving, rock hounding, summers on the desert, vacations, jewelry making, frequent trips to the cabin he built from the ground up, family, and so many other adventures. Jack had a philosophy that if he wanted to try something, he did. We have many treasures to remember him by as a result of his efforts. Above all, Grandpa loved his family and we always knew we came first.

He loved his savior, Jesus Christ, and served him faithfully in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Keith Standing, sister in law Reve Standing, sister Madge, and her husband Jack Bingham.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marie, his son Paul Standing (Bev) of Flagstaff, AZ, daughter Carolyn Webb (Jim) of Salt Lake City, UT, and son Don Standing of Smithfield, UT, his brother Ben Standing (Gloria), sister Joan Hogge (Glen), brother Harry Standing (Doris), and sister in law Coleen Standing Dockstader (Doc). Jack has 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren who all loved and adored him!

Interment Lake View Memorial Cemetery, 1640 East Lakeview Drive, Bountiful.
