A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and burial of cremains will be at the National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal, where military honors will be conducted by the Orion American Legion Post 255. Memorials may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or to the Sherman J. Sagadin VFW Post 143.
Ted was born on June 29, 1924, in Galesburg, IL, the son of Theodore and Doris Golden Schmidt. He married Dorothy “Jane” Soper on January 23, 1944. In 1948, he graduated from Knox.
Ted was a veteran, having proudly served in the United States Army Air Force. While serving in Europe in 1944, he received an Air Medal with 3 clusters as well as a Distinguished Flying Cross for his 35 flight missions over France and Germany. He loved to fly.
Following, his military service, Ted went on to own Payless Beauty Supply from 1948 through 1979. He enjoyed golf and playing the organ. Ted was a 32nd degree mason.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy “Jane” Schmidt; children, Susan Jane (Egil) Moen, Orion, IL, and Steven James (Joy VanCamp) Schmidt, Galena, IL; 3 grandsons, Kent Moen, Aurora, IL, Paul (Jamie) Moen, Davenport, IA, and Tim (Stephanie) Moen, Orion, IL; 2 foster grandsons, Trinh (Nga) Nguyen, Kristiansand, Norway, and Tam (Lan) Nguyen, Kristiansand, Norway; 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary.
