On 4/29/1861 he mustered into "B" Co. MN 1st Infantry
He was Killed on 9/17/1862 at Antietam, MD

John Goundry had lived in Stillwater for only a year, when news of the war reached Minnesota. Being a new arrival and a man of quiet disposition he was not well known in the community. He was considered to be a young man of industrious and temperate habits and well respected by those who did know him. At the time of his enlistment he was working in a saddle and harness shop owned by Messrs. Smith and Plato.
John was mustered into Company B on April 29, 1861. He was 24 years old. He was killed at the battle of Antietam on Sept 17, 1862. He left a mother and sister back in New York, to grieve for him.
