Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was mustered in as a Private in Company B, 20th New York Volunteer Infantry on May 3, 1861. Wounded in action on September 17, 1862 at the Battle of Antietam, Maryland, he would serve until honorably mustered out on July 1, 1863.

He filed for a US Army Invalid Veteran Pension on March 14, 1879 (Application #272327, Certificate #174372).

On February 5, 1895 his wife, Louise Aab, filed for a US Army Widow's Pension (Application #608268, Certificate #438790).
