Morehead City -- Robert Davis Darden, Jr, 85, of Morehead City, passed away on December 1, 2012, surrounded by his family.
Bob was born in Washington, DC in 1927 to Robert Davis Darden, Sr and Frances Hallett Darden. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and later received his law degree from the University of North Carolina.
Bob married Mary Lynn Isaacks in 1951; they lived in Pennsylvania and New York while Bob served as a Lieutenant in the Navy. After his Naval service, he was an executive in the furniture industry in Morganton, High Point, and Lenoir, North Carolina. In 1970, Bob left the furniture industry to pursue a law degree. He and Lynn moved to Morehead City in 1972, where he practiced law until his retirement.
Bob served on the school board in High Point and on the vestries of several Episcopal churches. He was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati and Theta Chi fraternity. He was also an avid fisherman and boating enthusiast.
He is survived by his sister, Eileen (Bunny) Darden Betty, of Asheville; his son, Robert Davis Darden, III and his wife, Melodie, of Morehead City, and their children: Robert Darden and John Darden of Morehead City, and Katherine Darden of Raleigh; his son, Thomas Francis Darden, II and his wife, Jody, of Raleigh, and their children: Thomas Darden of New Orleans, James Darden of Boulder, and Elizabeth Darden of Raleigh; and his daughter, Alison Darden Nabors and her husband, Andy, of Raleigh, and their children: Ariane Nabors of Chapel Hill and Ian Nabors of Raleigh.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday December 6th at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 2005 Arendell St., Morehead City, with the Rev. Dr. John B. Pollock officiating. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
