Janice D. St. George of Fredonia went home to be with the Lord and Savior on December 5, 2015 after a long courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Janice was born on November 22, 1951, the daughter of the late Robert and Anne Down of Brooklyn, NY.
Janice was a teacher at Fredonia Elementary School for 24 years before her retirement in October 2015. Prior to her teaching career, Janice worked in New York City for WCBS-TV as a research analyst. Janice was a graduate of Fredonia State with bachelor's degrees in both art and elementary education and a master's degree in curriculum.Janice loved making a warm home using her creative talents. She enjoyed her vegetable garden, as well as her arts and crafts. A voracious reader, Janice loved studying and teaching her children American History. Janice and her husband, Rick, enjoyed traveling and bike riding, especially biking the Canadian Niagara River Trail in Canada. Janice is survived by her husband Richard; daughter Kerry (Ryan) Yerico of Haddon Heights, NJ; step sisters-in-law Sandy (David) George, Lorraine (William) Derby, both of Fredonia; step brother-in-law James Allessie of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; step sons Erik (Amy) St. George of Dunkirk, Kevin St. George of Kadena Air Force Base, Okinawa, Japan and Scott St. George of Spring Hill, FL; and a cousin, Mary (Richard) Byrnes of Famingville, NY. She was also the proud grammy of a new granddaughter, Hayden Rose Yerico.
Besides her parents, Janice was predeceased by her brother Robert and sister-in-law Francis Allessie. Calling hours will be at Larson-Timko Funeral Home, 20 Central Ave., Fredonia, today, December 8, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Holy Trinity R.C. Church, 1032 Central Ave., Dunkirk, NY, Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. (Please assemble at Church), followed by burial at St. Anthony's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 E. Ohio St., Suite 304, Chicago, IL, 60611 in Janice's memory.
