The funeral service will be held Monday at 3:30 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Carlton was born and raised in Pitt County. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and doing for others. He was so giving and generous to the point that he would do without so others could have something. He was employed in Facility Services for Pitt County and also East Carolina Vocational Center. He was a member of Hillside Free Will Baptist Church in Grifton.
Carlton was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Scott and Vera Jones Scott; a son, Joseph Scott; and two brothers, Wiley and Lyman Scott.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary May Scott; son, Carlton Ray Scott, Jr. and wife, Melissa; granddaughter, Taylor Scott; brother, Offie Bryant of Georgia; sister, Louise Scott of Virginia; several in-laws in the May family; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on the day of the service from 2:30 up to the funeral hour at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
A heartfelt thank you is given to all of the family who was there at this difficult time, especially Lloyd and Johanna May for being so caring and comforting during his illness.
