Sarah "Sary" Meadors was born about 1784, probably in Anson Co., North Carolina. Sary, an old time nickname for Sarah, was the daughter of Thomas Meadors (1737-1818) and Keziah Moberly (1747-1830). Her parent's burial sites are unknown.

Sarah's father, Thomas, was born in Essex Co., Virginia. He was the son of Jason Meadors (1704-1774) and Elizabeth Stone (1711-1778). Jason was born in Essex Co., VA and Elizabeth in Richmond, VA. Both died in Anson Co., NC.

Sarah's mother, Keziah, was born in Lunenburg Co., VA. She was the daughter of Edward Moberly (1696-1765) and Savannah DeRuel (1702-1761). Edward was born in Anne Arundel Co., Maryland, Savannah in VA. Both died in Camden, Fairfield Co., SC.

In 1799, Sarah married Solomon Stephens I (abt 1781-1870) in Lincoln Co., Kentucky. Most family trees show Solomon as having been born in Knox Co. but that county was not created until Dec. 11, 1799. They were probably married in a part of Lincoln County that became part of Knox County later that same year. Solomon was the son of Moses Stephens II (1762-1853) and Margaret Miller Williams (1762-1897), both born in NC. Moses served his country as a soldier in the Revolutionary War.

Sarah and Solomon were married about 71 years and had six known children. They were Nancy Jane Stephens (abt 1800-aft 1850?), Edmond Stephens (abt 1809-1887), Whitmill Stephens (abt 1809-1866), Sarah Susannah Stephens (1815-1885), Solomon Stephens II (1821-1863) and Ephraim Stephens (1828-1888). There were probably several other unknown children who died in/near childbirth or did not survive childhood.

Sarah's husband, Solomon (89), died in 1870 in the Marsh Creek area of Whitley Co. (now McCreary Co.,). He is thought to be buried in the Jellico Creek Cemetery near Williamsburg, Whitley Co., KY in a now unmarked grave.

Sarah's actual death year is currently unknown but she is thought to have died in the early 1870s, not long after the death of her husband in 1870. She is shown as 86 in the 1870 census. She too, is thought to be buried in the Jellico Creek Church Cemetery, near her husband, Solomon. Both have grave sites that are no longer marked or have markers that are no longer readable.
