Entertainer. A transgender woman, she will be remembered for her association with Andy Warhol and Paul Morrissey. Born Haroldo Santiago Franceschi Rodriguez Danhakl (she later adopted the first name Holly after Audrey Hepburn's character from the 1961 film "Breakfast At Tiffany's" and took her last name Woodlawn from an "I Love Lucy" episode), her father, an American soldier left her mother before she was born. Her mother moved with Holly to New York when she was two and placed her in the care of her grandmother. Holly was reunited with her mother after she remarried and they would move to Florida. Holly ran away from home at the age of fifteen and hitchhiked back to New York and after a period of homelessness and living with friends, she met Candy Darling which led to an introduction to Warhol. Along with Darling and Jackie Curtis, Woodlawn became a member of Warhol's "Drag Queens". She marked her film debut in Morrissey's cult classic "Trash" (1970) and followed this with a co-starring role in his "Women in Revolt" (1971). During the 1970s, she became a popular entertainer on the New York nightclub circuit. She experienced a resurgence in her film career during the 1990s and landed a role of substance playing 'Barfly' in the horror picture "Night Owl" (1993). Among her other credits include "Twin Falls Idaho" (1999), "Alibi" (2007) and "Heaven Wants Out" (2009). Holly earned a place in pop culture, as she is mentioned in Lou Reed's classic song "A Walk on the Wild Side" (1971). She died from cancer.
