MICHAEL JAMES MATTHEWS 72, of San Bernardino, passed away August 28, 2006 at Redlands Community Hospital in Redlands.

Born September 26, 1933, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, to parents James (deceased) and Sylvia (still living, will be 99 years old in December) Matthews. He was the 3rd child out of 7, all of which are still living. His siblings in order of age are Patt Collins, Jackie Okamoto, Danny Matthews, Teddy Short, Barby Brown and Tommy Matthews.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Julian Matthews; son, Christopher Matthews and daughter-in-law, Dana Matthews; son, Michael Matthews, daughters, Lori Burke and Jaime Barney; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; and mother-in-law, Opal Julian.

Mike was a merchant marine just out of high school. Retired from Gate City Beverage Company after twenty years and worked for the San Bernardino School District Warehouse for several years after. Mike, his wife Bev and son Chris were part of the Loma Linda Lopers and competed in several marathons as a family. He met his wife Beverly in 1958 and they were a couple from that day on.

He will be dearly missed by all the lives he has touched.
