Ethel Hembree Arrowood, 85, of Murphy died Monday (December 19, 2005) in a Murphy hospital. A native of Cumberland County, TN, she had been living in Cherokee County since 1949. She was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Tempey Johnson Cross and the wife of the late John Quince Hembree, who died November 30, 1972 and Guin L. Arrowood, who died August 28, 2003. For several years, she and her husband, John, owned and operated Quality Market in Murphy and later, she worked for Cal's Supermarket and Mauney's Drug Store. She was a member of the Tomotla Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing, and gardening.

Surviving are her daughter, Brenda Hendrix and husband, Bob of Murphy; a son, John Charles Hembree and wife, Phoebe of Murphy; a sister, Daisy Hamilton of Maryville, TN; five grandchildren, Kimberly Hall and husband, Darrell, Kristi Holtzberg and husband, Corey, Tanya Sanchez and husband, Joey, John Gabriel Hembree and wife, Kelly, and Lisa Allen and husband, Tony; and five great grandchildren.

Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
