During the Civil War, Friedrich served in the Union army with Company F, 26th Wisconsin Infantry. He remained single and resided with his brother "Henry" and his family in Two Rivers. Friedrich died at the age of 86 and was interred in Forest View Cemetery in Two Rivers. Please note that the family name is also spelled Zermuehlen.
