Matthew P McGrath, 87, eight miles northwest of Ottawa, died Saturday at 5pm and funeral services were this morning at 9 o’clock at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rev. Cowell O’Neill officiated. Mr. McGrath had been in failing health six years. Death resulted from heat exhaustion.
Mr. McGrath born June 10, 1849, son of Edmund and Bridget (Phelan) McGrath at Waterford, Ireland. He was married April 10, 1888 to Miss Margaret McAsey at Atchison. Three children James, Ann, and Albert preceded him in death. He is survived by the widow and children, Frances, Mary, Joseph C. and Harold of the home address, George McGrath of Holton, Emmett of Delia, and Gerald McGrath of Ottawa; and a brother, Edmund McGrath of Holton. The body was taken to Holton for burial today.
