Helen L. Conner, 98, of Alton, Missouri, passed away Monday, March 5, 2012 at Collinsville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Collinsville, IL.

She was born on January 16, 1914 to the late Dave Alonzo and Lola House Wright in Thomasville, Missouri. She was the owner and operator of Watson Shoe Store and later became co-owner of the B&H Café, both located on the square in Alton. She was an active church member at Smyrna Freewill Baptist Church and a lifetime resident of Alton until moving to Illinois to be closer to her daughter.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Corwin Elvin Watson; her second husband Glen Alvin “Bud” Conner; one son, Amos Watson; three stepsons, James A., Glen, Jr. & Paul David Conner; two granddaughters, Jeana Vanderburg and Janella Crass and five brothers, Buryl, Marshall, Kenneth, Willard & Ray Wright.

She is survived by one son, Bill (Mary) Watson of Williamsville, MO; two daughters, Janette (Ray) Switzer of Maryville, IL & Jane (Chuck) Danyaw of Cherokee Village, AR; step-son, Bill J. Conner of Millington, TN; four grandsons, Mark Crabtree, James Crabtree, Dwight Crass & Todd Watson; a granddaughter, Robin Watson and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2012 at the Smyrna Cemetery in Alton, Missouri with Bro. Bill Bales officiating. Burial will follow at Symrna Cemetery under the direction of Conner-Hankins Funeral Home of Mountain Home, AR. Memorials may be made to Smyrna Freewill Baptist Church or Smyrna Cemetery.
