Mattoon, IL – Pauline (Hudson) Beals, age 91, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 7:05 a.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at Douglas Rehabilitation Center in Mattoon, Illinois.
The funeral service in her honor will begin at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 31, 2015, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL, 61938. Reverend Greg Swango will officiate. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Mattoon, IL. Visitation will be held Saturday at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the service begins.
Born May 12, 1924, in Clay County, Tennessee, Pauline was the daughter of Silas and Ollie (Cherry) Cherry. She married Oscar Hudson in Scottsville, KY, in 1940. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1987. She later married Leo “Jack” Beals in Effingham, IL, in 1990. He passed away July 28, 2004. Survivors include seven children, Gene Hudson of Hindsboro, IL, Ruth Vetor of Mattoon, IL, Bill Hudson and wife Marsha of Oakland, IL, Linda Rowe and husband Gil of Martinsville, IL, Sandra Wright of Mattoon, IL, David Hudson and wife Vivian of Hindsboro, IL, and Tudi Beasley and husband Rick of Shumway, IL; two brothers, Dillard Cherry of Red Boiling Springs, TN, and Roy Cherry and wife Martha of Hoopeston, IL; one sister, Willodean Dixon of Scottsville, KY; twenty-one grandchildren, forty-seven great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister, and two grandchildren.
Mrs. Beals was a member of the Church of Christ of Kemp, IL. She also attended Church of Christ in Effingham, IL. and Lake Land Church of Christ of rural Mattoon IL. Prior to her retirement in 1989, Pauline was employed by R.R. Donnelly. Her hobbies included doll collecting and listening to Blue Grass music. In her free time, she loved horseback riding and attending rodeos.
Pauline was a wonderful cook, known for her fried chocolate pies. She cherished her family and treasured time spent with them, especially her children and grandchildren.
