American photographer and commercial postcard publisher. A self-taught pioneer in the development of color photography and printing.

Born Charles Elmore Roberts in Missouri, the son of George Elmore Roberts and Nora Augusta (Smith) Roberts. Married Ellen Woolridge on June 17, 1930 in San Bernardino, Calif.

Mike first appeared in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1934 as a commercial photographer. When Eastman Kodak introduced its revolutionary new color film Kodachrome in 1936, Mike adopted it. He became the first printer of photochrome postcards based on the new Kodachrome color film, moving from commercial photography to commercial postcard production in the early 1950s. His company created many thousands of postcards in a very wide range of subjects, and he became known as America's Postcard King.

For a detailed study of his postcards and their publisher marks, see "Mike Roberts--Photographer Turned Publisher," by Jim Caddick, p. 6-9, at: http://www.postcard.org/sfbapcc2010-03-s.pdf.
