US Congressman. He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1859 to 1861 as a representative of Maine's 1st Congressional District. Somes served as Mayor of Biddeford, Maine from 1855 to 1857. He was president of the City Bank of Biddeford and was the founder of the Eastern Journal newspaper. He was also a member of the 1861 Peace Convention held in the nation's capital, in an effort to prevent war between the Union and Confederate States. He was engaged in the practice of patent law at the time of his death.
