From The Tri-City Reporter, 1932:
Dr. A W Stephenson, who was a practicing physician here for many years left to the people of Dyer and the community surrounding it, a heritage of faithful service and sacrificial devotion to duty both as a physician and a citizen.
He experienced all the hardships of a physician's life in those early days, but it was his joy to serve. He never denied the call of the sick or distressed no matter how cold the night and severe the weather and how bad the roads, even though he knew there was no "pay day" in the end.
Dr Stephenson and his wife were loyal to all the interests of this community. Their home was always open to the public where a genuine hospitality and good will was extended. The fires and lights burned brightly and cheerfull for all who came their way.
