Per the "Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors of the Revolutionary War", "Ashbel fought in the Revolutionary War as a Private, Capt. Ebenezer Newell's Co., Col. Symond's regiment, service 21 days; Company marched from Lanesborough to Manchester on the alarm of July 9, 1777; roll certified at Lanesborough, also same Co. and regiment, service 6 days; Company marched from Lanesborough to Meloomscuyck on the alarm of August 14, 1777, roll certified at Lanesborough".

Ashbel was a Private under Capt. Ebenezer Newell and Col. Symonds Militia. Ashbel has an DAR/SAR #of A207188.
