Steven Harold Barker, 66, of Jonesville died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Barker was born Nov. 8, 1949, in Surry County to Harold Timothy and Kathleen White Barker.

Mr. Barker was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War. He worked as a security guard at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital before retiring.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Terry Barker and Drake Barker.

Survivors include a daughter, Laurie Merriss and husband, Todd, of Easley, S.C.; four grandchildren; aunts and nieces.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 4, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel, with Wanda Skilbred, Mary Lou Gatan and Rick Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens, with military honors provided by the U.S. Marine Corps and Yadkin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10346. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
